Farming Smarter hosts its seventh Alberta Open Farm Day Aug. 19, 11am – 3pm. Join us for this exciting day of fun in the sun with a $5 BBQ, petting zoo, Kona Ice, wagon rides, Sweet Spot and more!
The Sweet Spot is a sweet addition to our fun-filled day of learning – learn how the grains grown in Alberta get processed into our favourite foods! This new experience shows your favourite sweets in their earliest forms and help you understand the journey from the field to the table! Alberta Grains and Bootsma Bakery will showcase the before and after of delicious snacks that you’ll be able to eat after!
Our learning centres will expand to increase learning opportunities. We have a variety of agriculture careers on display. You can hear from active professionals the role they play through a fun, interactive demo. Don’t worry, we’ll have questions prepared for you to jumpstart your learning!
Families that enjoyed our interactive and engaging agriculture scavenger hunt will be able to enjoy it again! This year, we’ll make it easier and more fun for you to complete with super prizes when you finish.
Our wagon ride tours at 11am and 1:30pm take people into our fields to hear about crops and the research we do. Don’t be afraid to ask any questions you have – we’ll be happy to answer!
This year, our great friends at EQUS will run our lunch BBQ! Grab a burger, pop, and bag of chips for the family-friendly low price of $5! However, if you’re looking for a cold snack on a hot afternoon, the Kona Ice Truck will make stop at Farming Smarter!
The Gentle Giant Petting Zoo joins our event this year! So not only will you get to learn more about crops, you’ll have a chance to encounter live animals!
