Join Ashley Wagenaar and Grassy Lake Farms to learn about the successes and challenges of a new fall cover crop options for potato growers. Establishing reliable ground cover throughout the off-season is an Alberta farmer's top priority after harvest. The ability to mitigate wind erosion, trap winter moisture, and preserve soil structure provides ample benefit to the following season. Fall rye is a common cover crop, though its use prior to potato planting is not well documented. Wagenaar and Grassy Lake Farms invite you to come out and see the effectiveness of this practice on their potato field to evaluate if it's right for you and your farm!
This event is one in a series of on-farm events Farming Smarter will offer this summer through its Conservation Agronomist Program. Watch our event listings for future events taking place on participating farms in southern Alberta. There might be one next door to you!
