Collect up to six CEUs in this one-day workshop for $250. All you need to collect the credits is an internet connection to join from your phone or computer and participate in the short quizzes following sessions. It's that easy!
The Pesticide Applicator Workshop is hosted through Zoom, please use your name even on guest accounts. You will be encouraged to turn your camera on, engage in discussions, and ask questions to earn your credits. Spend a day learning; sweatpants optional but encouraged!

Label Components & Interpretation - Ron PidskalnyThe components and interpretation of labels and the case study from last year.Ron Pidskalny, M.Sc., P.Ag. is a technology commercialization consultant and business analyst with over 35 years of entrepreneurial and multi-national experience. He has an extensive knowledge of business planning, product development, business intelligence, patent and intellectual property management, competitive product evaluation and project management. Ron has been an advisor to the Canadian government on the International Plant Genetics Treaty and has commented on the “Study on Modern Food Biotechnology, Human Health and Development” on behalf of the Canadian Society of Agronomy (CSA) and the Agricultural Institute of Canada (AIC) for the World Health Organization of the United Nations (WHO). He served on the Board of Governors of the Agricultural Institute of Canada (AIC), is past-Western Director of the Canadian Society of Agronomy (CSA) and past-Executive Director of the Canadian Forage and Grasslands Association. |
Fate and Behaviour of Pesticides in the Environment - Jonathan ChallisA mix of some fundamental theory around studying the fate and behaviour of pesticides in the environment mixed with my actual research related to these topics. Discover how we study the fate of pesticides, how we measure them in the environment, and more.Jonathan Challis is a Research Scientist with Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada at the Lethbridge Research and Development Centre. He received his B.Sc. from The University of Winnipeg (2011) and his Ph.D. from the University of Manitoba (2018) in Chemistry. Following his Ph.D., Jonathan Challis spent three years as a Banting Postdoctoral fellow in the Toxicology Centre at the University of Saskatchewan. His background is in analytical and environmental chemistry and he has focused his research on the agricultural sector since joining AAFC in 2022. He runs a research program focused on characterizing the environmental occurrence, sources, fate, and effects of agricultural-related chemicals. |

Aging, Risks, and Pesticides - Andrea SawatzkyEnjoy a conversation about the risks of pesticides, the implications of aging and how these risks are communicated.Andrea was born in Thompson, Manitoba, but spent six of my childhood years in Indonesia and Singapore. I attended the University of Manitoba and obtained a Bachelor of Science with a major in Zoology and a Bachelor of Science in Agriculture. After graduation I moved to Alberta where I started working for the Federal Government. My first job was as a Primary Products Inspector/ Grader for the Meat Hygiene department of what is now called the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA). I then switched agencies and have been working with Health Canada’s, Pest Management Regulatory Agency (PMRA), as a Pesticide Compliance and Enforcement Officer in Calgary for the past 20+ years. |

He decided to pursue an Agribusiness degree from the University of Saskatchewan and graduated in 2014. He has since remained in the industry with a focus on agronomy and R&D. He holds a Professional Agronomist designation and is also a Certified Crop Advisor, showcasing his expertise and commitment to the agricultural industry. He applies his experience working with John Deere, where he contributes his knowledge and skills to support the advancement of agricultural technology and innovation. There, his main role is to ensure that our engineers understand design requirements from an agronomic perspective for new product innovations and to subsequently test new equipment and software as it prepares to enter the market. |
