Prairie Pest Monitoring – May 21, 2018

Categories

Insect of the Week

The ground beetle took the top spot in the Prairie Pest Monitoring Network’s Insect of the Week initiative.

Ground beetles, also known as carabid beetles, feed on pests that can be harmful to your fields. Smaller species often eat cutworm eggs, while the larger species attack and kill fully grown cutworms.

There’s over 400 carabid species on the prairies and there can be an estimated 50 species on any given field.
