Macroglenes penetrans is an important natural enemy of the wheat midge.

This week’s Insect of the Week is a species of Pteromalidae called Macroglenes penetrans. It is an important natural enemy of the wheat midge. They overwinter as larvae inside the wheat midge larvae. The wheat midge dies when the M. penetrans larvae are fully developed and emerge as adults in the spring.

For more information about M. penetrans, see our Insect of the Week page.
