Cutworm Pests of Crops on the Canadian Prairies – Identification and Management Field Guide by Dr. Kevin Floate is another new publication from Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada (2017). See Cutworm Corner for download details. The new field guide contains general information about cutworms in addition to species-specific information on 24 cutworm species of economic importance: Identification, Distribution, Lifecycle, Hosts, Feeding Damage, Monitoring/Control, Economic Threshold and additional notes.

In the coming weeks, we will be posting an “Insect of the Week” in the form of short excerpts from the new cutworm field guide or our previous Field Crop and Forage Pests and their Natural Enemies in Western Canada: Identification Field Guide (see below). The highlighted insect(s) is one that may be found in fields in the Prairie Region at the time of posting.
