March Fly

These insects are beneficial because they break down organic matter and enhance nutrient release and recycle that eventually feed crops.

If you see swarms of March Fly around, please do Not spray for them! These insects, like many, are beneficial because they break down organic matter and enhance nutrient release and recycle that eventually feed crops. Adults feed on the nectar of flowers of fruit trees and especially on flowers of umbelliferous plants; often swarming in mass flights in spring. Adults are important pollinators. Larvae play an important role in formation and accumulation of humus in soil.
